UI / Visual Designer
1 year fixed-term employment to set the standard for visual excellence and consistency across complex enterprise products that powers the world of retail!
The Role
At Extenda Retail, we build the systems that power the retail world—from high-traffic point-of-sale and self-checkout systems to complex inventory and back-office solutions. We are looking for a UI Designer who sets a high standard for visual excellence, polish, and consistency across complex enterprise products.
You will join our UX team as a guardian of visual quality. This role is ideal for a designer who deeply cares about craft, but also understands how to design for scale, technical constraints, and long-term maintainability. You’ll be a key driver for the user interface layer across our product suite, defining visual standards, evolving our design system, and collaborating closely with UX, Engineering, and Product Management to deliver experiences that feel trustworthy, modern, and intuitive to both enterprise and consumer users.
While you will partner closely with UX Designers, your center of gravity is UI excellence: layout, hierarchy, interaction patterns, design systems, accessibility, and that final layer of polish that separates “usable” from “exceptional.”
This is initially a 12-month position, with a possibility to make the role permanent where you will join our UX team and play a vital role in advancing the visual quality of our product suite.
Key Responsibilities
Design for Complexity: Create refined, scalable UI patterns for complex workflows across desktop, mobile, and specialized touch-screen environments.
System Evolution: Actively contribute to and evolve our design system—refining components, tokens, and visual standards to ensure a unified product language.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with UX Designers to translate research and wireframes into elegant interfaces, and work alongside Engineering to ensure pixel-perfect implementation.
Quality Assurance: Ensure visual consistency and accessibility are maintained across various product lines and release cycles.
Strategic Aesthetics: Balancing aesthetics with usability, accessibility, and technical feasibility.
What You’ll Bring
Professional Experience: 3–5 years of experience in UI Design, ideally within enterprise, SaaS, or complex software environments.
A Sharp Eye: Strong skills in typography, color theory, grid systems, and spacing.
Systems Thinking: You don’t just design screens; you design systems. You understand how a change in one component ripples across an entire ecosystem.
Communication: The ability to articulate the "why" behind your design decisions to stakeholders and developers alike.
Evidence of impact: A portfolio that showcases real-world products, demonstrating how you’ve navigated technical constraints without sacrificing quality.
Required Skills & Experience
Design tools: Proficiency in Figma, including advanced use of auto-layout, components, and variables.
Accessibility First: Strong understanding of WCAG and EAA guidelines and how to implement them in design.
Agile Proficiency: Experience working within lean, iterative, and cross-functional product teams.
UX Foundations: A solid grasp of UX foundations to ensure your UI designs are backed by logic and that you can effectively collaborate with UX designers.
Bonus Points
Workflow Innovation: Experience using AI design tools to accelerate your workflow and exploration.
Domain Expertise: Prior experience with POS, checkout, or complex enterprise systems.
Collaborative Spirit: You appreciate feedback, iteration, and getting eyes on your work early and often.
